Full Description/Meeting Details:

Mursion is a virtual reality teacher training platform that uses student avatars to represent a simulated classroom.  This VR classroom provides teachers with a safe space in which they can practice teaching sexual health education concepts with an opportunity to get direct feedback. Research shows that Mursion provides teachers with a unique opportunity to practice collaborative and communication skills that are not often addressed in other education programs.

Participants in this Zoom training will interact with high school avatars to address these topics:

  • Increasing Personal Comfort When Teaching Sexuality in High School

    • In this scenario, the participant will display respect and acceptance for the feelings/attitudes of all students and will demonstrate the ability and willingness to communicate about sexuality with ease.

  • Creating Inclusive Classrooms for LGBTQ+ Youth for High School

    • In this simulation with five high school students, the participant will learn how to use inclusive and affirming language and intervene effectively in homophobic and other bullying comments and actions.

  • Answering Difficult Questions about Sexuality - High School

    • For today’s lesson, you, the learner, have saved the last 5 minutes of class to allow time to answer some of the questions that have been posed in the anonymous question box. You will learn how to effectively respond to three different types of challenging questions including students’ values-based questions.

Registered participants will receive a Zoom link with additional details for logging in on the day of the training. A stipend of $20 per hour x 3 hours = $60 before taxes will be provided for completing the training.
