Course Description/Meeting Summary:

OCPS provides an ever-expanding selection of digital tools that support instruction. These digital resources can actively engage students and guide them to deepen their understanding of content. Most of the tools can save valuable time for teachers by auto grading, providing timely feedback and collecting data on student progress. The morning will begin with an overview of the most requested tools. In the afternoon, participants will be able to dig deeper into the tool(s) that will have the greatest impact on their instructional roles.

OCPS provides an ever-expanding selection of digital tools that support instruction. These digital resources can actively engage students and guide them to deepen their understanding of content.  Most of the tools can save valuable time for teachers by auto grading, providing timely feedback and collecting data on student progress. The morning will begin with an overview of the most requested tools.  In the afternoon, participants will be able to dig deeper into the tool(s) that will have the greatest impact on their instructional roles. 

 

Participants can receive hands on experience with tools that may include:

  • Organizing your Google Drive

  • EquatIO: for math & science

  • Read&Write for Google Chrome: all content & learning levels

  • Gizmos: simulations for math & science

  • BrainPOP: interactive for all content and learning levels

  • TypingClub: touch typing for increased productivity

  • Defined STEM: project-based learning

  • Nearpod: Interactive 1:1 sharing tool

  • Newsela: leveled nonfiction text for all content and learning levels

  • SMART Learning Suite Online: assessment, collaborative workspaces & more for all content and learning levels

 

Tips to get the most of the day:

 

  • Allow travel time and time to enter the parking garage.

  • Bring your OCPS ID badge so that you enter the garage. Park on the 5th level.

  • There is no cafe in the building so plan to bring a lunch or pick up a meal at a local drive-thru.

  • Come prepared to identify the tool(s) you most want to learn more about.

  • Bring a set of headphones or earbuds.

  • This is a hands on session in the 5th floor Lab A - engaging in the activities will give participants greater value of their day.
