Participants will understand general components of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its implementation for students with disabilities within OCPS.

              Points of emphasis will include:

  • the meaning of Exceptional Student Education and the students it serves
  • descriptions of various ESE students within program categories

·         service delivery models for providing support to students with disabilities in the general education classroom

·         instructional responsibilities in meeting the needs of students with disabilities

·         guidelines for collaborating with support staff members to meet the needs of students with disabilities

·         behaviors often demonstrated by some students with disabilities and techniques used for de-escalation

·         diploma options for students with disabilities and how diploma decisions effect student’s future opportunities

·         district resources available to teachers to support them in meeting the needs of students with disabilities
