Course Description/Meeting Summary:
During the course you will learn the history of the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics, learn how to interpret the new benchmarks and standards to plan for instruction, and be introduced to resources that will support you implementing the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics. Grade level standards and resource documents are available from the Florida Department of Education B.E.S.T Standards for Mathematics (Links to an external site.) web page or by clicking the link. Participants will:
understand the reason for and implementation of the new B.E.S.T. Standards.
be able to interpret standards and benchmarks.
be able identify the expectations for instruction based on specific intentional language in the standards.
be able to explain why the phrase "an algorithm" has different instructional implications than "the algorithm."
be able to use the B1G-M document to plan for mathematics instruction.
be able to infuse Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning Standards throughout mathematics instruction.
understand how each strand progresses throughout the elementary grades.
understand how to use OCPS provided resources to support instruction of the B.E.S.T. Standards
