Course Description/Meeting Summary:

Welcome to the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® refresher training. This course will be used to build on the foundation you already have in place, it is important to view Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training as an ongoing process rather than a one-time event. By participating in this formal refresher course, you have the opportunity to: • Review program’s concepts, skills, and application principles to reinforce • Problem solve and strengthen crisis intervention skills. • Receive additional supporting • Demonstrate capabilities in applying course content and skills to work experiences since last training. This course will be taught in an online virtual format. To complete this course you will need to: • Complete the welcome module • Take the pre-test • Attend and participate in the Teams meeting on the date and time of your course. • Complete the posttest which will include questions in regards to the physical components of the program to demonstrate understand.

Full Description/Meeting Details:

The purpose of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) refresher is that it focuses on verbal de-escalation techniques and many other strategies to prevent violent or disruptive behavior in the classroom and allows the teacher to emphasize learning. This one-day, 6-hour, virtual course is designed to "refresh" your CPI skills allowing you to stay current with your approval. Successful completion of a written examination and understanding of physical intervention skills are required in order to obtain a 1-year extension of your approval to use the techniques taught in the course.  This refresher must be taken before the approval to use the techniques (blue card) has expired.  You must be able to verify your "current status" in order to take this class.  The district-wide CPI database will be checked to verify expiration dates.  Please submit your current blue card to the training.  If you are unable to locate your blue card, email the contact person for this training.  If you are unable to complete this course please cancel within 48 hours of the course. Please cancel your registration on Canvas so that the participant slot is available for others.

  • How can I drop/unenroll from a class?
    • You can only remove yourself from a meeting/training that you signed up for in Canvas PD Catalog. If you were manually added to a meeting/training and can no longer attend, you will need to contact the course facilitator to be deleted. To remove yourself from a meeting/training, follow these steps.
      1. Go to catalog.instructure.comLinks to an external site.Links to an external site.and login.
      2. The new screen shows your In Progress Canvas Courses (both ones you are a student in and ones you are a teacher of) and you can click on Completed to view completed Canvas Courses.
      3. Scroll until you find the meeting/training that you signed up for.
      4. In the far right corner there is a small gear, click on it. A drop down menu will appear, giving you the choice to Drop Course.
      5. Select Drop Course, and in the new window, confirm by clicking Drop.

To begin the course you will need to complete Module 1 and the pretest. If you have any difficulties getting to or understanding the pretest instructors will be available 30 minutes prior to the start of the class to assist you.

The day of the course. The course will begin promptly at 8:30. To gain access to the PowerPoint and the course please click the Teams  button which located Module 1 This is were you will receive your instruction and content for the course.

After the completion of the course, the participants will incorporate the techniques to ensure for the best possible care welfare safety and security for all involved in a crisis.  You will receive your blue card, as well as 6 in service points.  Once you successfully complete all modules, pass the posttest  your blue card will be processed, and will be mailed to you.
