Course Description/Meeting Summary:
The Curriculum and Digital Learning department, in partnership with Dr. Sarah Giuliani, an adjunct professor with UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Initiative) is pleased to invite you to our upcoming professional learning series on the Science of Reading for Secondary Content Areas. This series is intended for all content area teachers including math, science, social studies and ELA to move beyond ELA-specific to provide practical, research-based strategies for addressing the critical reading challenges faced by our middle and high school students. Instructional coaches and administrators are also welcome to attend.

Part 3: Reading Smoothly for Better Understanding
· Strategies to help students read more automatically, accurately, and with expression. When students can read smoothly (without stopping to sound out every word), they can focus their mental energy on understanding the actual content in complex texts.
