Course Description/Meeting Summary:

The goal of Culturally Responsive Instruction (CRI) is to increase participants’ awareness of the need for cultural competence and cultural responsiveness in the classroom setting. Cultural competence and cultural responsiveness reach far beyond books and posters featuring a myriad of diverse cultures. Our CRI training goes deeper into knowing who we are and how hidden/subconscious beliefs and assumptions can impact our interactions and expectations of students. As we pull back the curtain, we see no malice or intentional harm but often there are just simply misunderstandings and assumptions based on stereotypes.

Full Description/Meeting Details:

CRI training will provide professional learning and support to instructional personnel in the following areas:

  • Instructional Strategies
  • Reflective Practice
  • Implicit Bias
  • Student Engagement
  • Narrowing the Achievement Gap

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the conceptual and practical framework of culturally responsive instruction (CRI) and be able to implement at least 3 new strategies in their practice to aid in facilitating narrowing the achievement gap.

Day 1 is full day training.  Day 2 is a follow up support meeting to receive feedback and address any questions or challenges since the original training.  Please register on Canvas.

* Please note-This training includes a  mandatory ½ day part 2 session scheduled for May 14th.
